This is Dahlia imperialis, also known as Species Tree Dahlia, Giant Dahlia, and Imperial Dahlia. The leaves from this tree are used as a dietary supplement by the Qeqchi people of San Pedro Carcha in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. This is a fast growing plant with beautiful lavender, mauve and pink blossoms. Growing up to 12 feet high, this gorgeous plant attracts a wide variety of birds, bees, and butterflies.
